Georgea F. Hudner
Georgea Hudner was born and raised in Porterville, California. She attended Mills College where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art in 1954.
In October, 1954, Georgea married her first husband, Stanford Smith, Jr., who was an aviator with the United States Navy. Smith was on active duty as a carrier pilot and flight instructor, while Georgea cared for their three children – Kelly, Shannon and Stanford III. Mr. Smith was killed in a car accident in 1963.
In 1966, Georgea met Captain Thomas Hudner, Jr., at a Christmas party in San Diego, California, while he was serving as the Navigator of USS KITTY HAWK (CVA 63). The couple married in 1969 and had a son, Thomas III, in 1972.
Following Captain Hudner’s retirement from the Navy in 1973, the Hudners moved to Concord, Massachusetts, where they have lived for 44 years. In addition to their four children, they have been blessed with twelve grandchildren (Andrew, Scott, Julie, Austin, Madison, Joseph, Kelly, Max, Zachary, Lily, Thomas IV, and Reese), and one great grandchild (Kahe).
Georgea has enjoyed a life of service as a mother and a Navy wife, supporting her family and assisting her husband throughout his career of public service with the Navy, the United Service Organization (USO) and the Massachusetts Department of Veterans’ Services. Throughout the years, she has been an active volunteer in her children’s schools and other local organizations. An avid tennis player for many years, she enjoys spending time with her growing family.
Barbara Joan Miller
Born and raised in Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, Barbara (Bentfield) Miller graduated from Anoka Hennipen School of Nursing in Anoka, Minnesota in 1973. A working mother, Barbara contributed to her communities as an internal medicine and pediatric nurse for over 19 years in Minneapolis, Minnesota; Pensacola and Jacksonville, Florida; and San Diego, California.
Barbara met her husband-to-be, Ensign Michael Miller, in 1976 in Pensacola. Five years later, they were married, beginning her 35-year career in service as a Navy spouse. Barbara is a proud mother and grandmother to her daughter Jill, son Chip, daughter-in-law Tanya, and four grandchildren: Sydney, Parker, Maxwell (Max), and Natalee Paige Miller – the newest addition to the family.
Barbara has traveled and lived around the world, including Pensacola, Florida; San Diego, California; Jacksonville, Florida; Virginia Beach, Virginia; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Yokosuka, Japan; Washington, D.C.; Norfolk, Virginia; and presently, Annapolis, Maryland. She has been an active participant in many Navy organizations, serving as secretary, president, committee chairman, and advisor/mentor in various spouse groups while her husband commanded a squadron during Desert Storm and served as the Commanding Officer of USS CORONADO and USS JOHN F. KENNEDY and of the USS RONALD REAGAN Strike Group. She was an advisor to the Naval Officer Spouse Club in San Diego, and a Navy Family Line volunteer in Washington. She was also the Chair of the new Commanding Officer (CO)/Executive Officer (XO), Chief of the Boat (COB), and Command Master Chief
(CMC) training program, and Co-Chair of the new Flag Officer Spouse Training. Barbara has sat on numerous scholarship and charity committees; was an advisor and honorary President of the Naval Academy Women’s Club and the Naval Academy Garden Club; and is a member of the P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization).
